Regional Scholarships

We post any regional scholarship info that is sent directly to Vance Charter School here. Most regional scholarships have deadlines in the spring. Below is the list of scholarships that were received last year. As we receive application links and deadlines for the Class of 2024, we will make updates to this list.

Optimist Club of Henderson - (2 scholarships; $1000 each (renewable 3 yrs for max of $4000) Scholarships may be used for any university, college, trade school, or institute of higher learning. Applicants must be graduating seniors who are residents of Vance County.  Must have a 2.5 gpa average combined in junior and senior years of high school.  Application forms are available in my office, or may be downloaded as a pdf from the Henderson Optimist Club facebook page. Deadline to apply through VCS is May 22, 2024.

Rotary Club of Henderson - (three $2500 scholarships) This scholarship is for high school seniors attending school in Vance County who will be continuing their education following graduation.  Applicants must complete a scholarship application (available from Ms. Seifert) and submit it to the Rotary contact listed by noon on Friday, May 10, 2024 via mail or email.

Granville Health System Foundation 2024 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship - ($1000, but may reapply annually) This scholarship will be awarded to a Granville County resident who has been accepted to a 2- or 4- year allied health program at an accredited school and who intends to pursue a career in the allied health care field. Programs eligible for this scholarship include clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, RN, BSN, ADN, LPN, dentistry and related careers, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner. Applications can be found at www.ghshospital.org/​SamPerryScholarship. Deadline to apply is 5:00pm on April 30, 2024.  Letters of recommendation may be enclosed with the application, or sent directly to the address on the application.

Couch Oil Cares Scholarship - ($2000 - 6 awards ) This scholarship is for students who have been accepted into a 2-year or 4-year accredited college and reside in the 16-county area surrounding the Triangle. https://couchoilcares.org/​scholarship/. Deadline to apply is Friday, May 17.

Kiwanis Club of Henderson - Each year the Kiwanis Club awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from each high school in Vance County.  See Mrs. Seifert for the application form. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 10.

Bob R McGuire Scholarship - The North Carolina Child Support Council is a non-profit organization comprised of Child Support Professionals, the Judiciary, and others involved in the Child Support process.  Each year the Council sponsors $1,500 scholarships in memory of Bob R. McGuire.  Mr. McGuire was an advocate for the program in both the public and private sectors. The deadline to apply is April 5, 2024. The application packet with scholarship criteria is available from Mrs. Seifert.

NC Community Foundation - This foundation hosts nearly 150 college scholarships, representing nearly $1.8 million in available scholarship funds. Most NCCF scholarships close for 2024 applications on March 15. There is no cost to apply, and it is now much easier for students to apply for multiple scholarships. NCCF is using a Universal Scholarships Application for the first time. The online application matches information about the student - such as county of residence, GPA or intended major - with criteria for approximately 130 scholarships. Students are then alerted to all scholarships for which they may be eligible. About 20 other NCCF scholarships have separate applications with different due dates. Students are encouraged to review the criteria for those and follow the instructions on how to apply.

Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship- The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of NC will award  scholarships of 1st place - $3000, 2nd place - $1000, 3rd place - $800 and 4th place - $400 to NC high school seniors, to be used at any NC college or university.  In addition, many local Colonial Dames Committees also provide smaller scholarships to local finalists. The recipients will be selected on the basis of the merit of an essay on the assigned topic, plus character and scholastic record and need. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on February 5, 2024.  

Alpha Delta Kappa, Rho Chapter - 4 scholarships available from this organizations for women educators:

  1. Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship is open to any young woman who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in NC that follows the NC Standard Course of Study and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in NC next fall. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 10% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25, good character and participation in extracurricular activities (school and community).   2. Mary Rose Mills-Linda Rankin Memorial Scholarship is open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in NC that follows the NC Standard Course of Study and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university next fall. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 10% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1290 or ACT composite score of 27, good character and participation in extracurricular activities (school and community). Clare Johnson Marley-Mary Earle Berger Fine Arts Scholarship is open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in NC that follows the NC Standard Course of Study and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university next fall, and who is declaring his/her major in an area of the fine arts. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 20% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25, good character and participation in extracurricular activities (school and community). Financial need is not the primary consideration.   4. NC Alpha Delta Kappa Student Achievement Scholarship is also for $2000 and is open to a male or female, on track to graduate this spring, planning to pursue an education degree at a school of higher learning.  Specific eligibility requirements are:  SAT score of 990 to 1130 or ACT composite score of 20 to 24; unweighted GPA of 2.5 to 3.5; good character, integrity, leadership potential and service to school, community and church.  Apply through the NC Community Foundation at www.nccommunityfoundation.​org .

Wake Electric Scholarship Program - Two different scholarships are available: Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) and the Touchstone Energy Scholarship ($1,250). Students submit one application to be considered for both scholarships, if they meet the qualifications. Webb Technology Scholarship - Wake Electrito provide an opportunity for local high school students to discover and explore technologies that are transforming our world while applying for an opportunity to receive a $1,500 scholarship!  To apply, students must live in one of the seven (7) counties Wake Electric serves (Franklin, Wake, Granville, Vance, Durham, Nash and Johnston), fill out an application and write an essay based on the prompt located here.  The application and essay are due by April 15, 2024.  For more information about James E. Henderson Optimist Club Essay Contest - The Optimist Club of Henderson sponsors an annual essay contest. Winners receive a cash prize: 1st- $150, 2nd - $125, 3rd - $100. The 1st place winner goes on to compete at the District level for a $2500 scholarship. This year's essay topic is "Optimism: How it Connects to Us".  Applications are available from Ms. Seifert.  The deadline to apply is February 2. The contest is open to any VCS student under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2023.

Henderson Optimist Club Oratorical Contest - The Henderson Optimist Club is hosting an oratorical contest on March 9. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking, perfect self-expression, improve communication skills and provide the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.  This year's topic is "How to Change the World with Optimism".  Applications for the local contest are due to Mrs. Seifert by 8:30 am on February 13.  The Optimist Club will pick them up that day!    Winners of the contest on March 9 will receive: 1st place - $150, 2nd place - $125, 3rd place - $100. The 1st and 2nd place winners will go on to compete in the zone contest on March 23. The top two zone winners will compete in the district contest on April 13. The top 3 will be awarded $2500, $1500 and $1000 respectively.

SECU "People Helping People" Scholarship -  NC SECU Foundation Scholarship for high school seniors is now open. SECU Foundation takes an active role in assisting communities across NC because we believe in "People Helping People ''. To support this commitment, the People Helping People scholarship was established to help NC public high school students attend college. A scholarship award of up to $10,000 over 4 years will be awarded. You must apply by Friday, February 23rd at noon to be considered as a Vance Charter School nominee. See Mrs. Seifert for application and details.

Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Educators - Gamma Chi Chapter Deadline: Thursday, January 18; $1000 scholarship for young women who are pursuing a degree that would lead to a career in education. You must reside in Warren or Vance County to be eligible to apply. Interested students will find the 2024 Grant-in-Aid application under Forms on the NCDKG Gamma Chi Chapter website

NC Golden LEAF Scholarships - Scholarships are available for students attending colleges, universities and community colleges. The application deadline for students attending colleges and universities is March 1, 2024. Check the website for eligibility information and the application form. Applications for the scholarships for community college students are available through the financial aid office of your community college.

NCHSAA Scholarship Opportunities for Student-Athletes - 15 separate scholarships; postings up Sept 1; deadlines range from Nov 7 through spring

Henderson Institute - Robert Bogan Scholarship - This award is for deserving students attending high school in Henderson, NC or students able to establish a legacy to a graduate of “Henderson Institute”. The award is a $1,000 scholarship to an accredited four (4) year college/university of choice, renewable each year for a total of $4,000.00 if you maintain an unweighted 2.5 GPA or higher. See Mrs. Seifert for applications. The deadline for applications to be received is 12:00 noon on March 19, 2024.  

Woodward-Gholson Endowment Scholarship - This local scholarship for post-secondary education is for students from this area in need of financial support, with strong academics, and a commitment to community service.  An individual is eligible to apply for a 1-year scholarship for education-related expenses if the student meets established criteria.  Awarded scholarships may be renewed annually.  Our school has been invited to nominate 3 students for consideration. Applications are available from Mrs. Seifert and are due to her by April 10. Eligibility requirements: resident of Vance County, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other volunteer activities, and need of financial support.

Warren County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship - The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in furthering their education with priority given, but not limited to, the field of agriculture or agriculture-related occupations. Previous recipients of the scholarship must maintain a 2.5 grade average in order to reapply for another year. Applicants may be an individual in the senior year of high school or one who has completed high school. *All applicants must be residents of Warren County *and attending or planning to attend a NC accredited college, community college or technical institute. Studies must be beyond the high school level and may be either Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or doctoral degree studies. Two scholarships in the amount of $1000.00 each will be awarded to nominees with good high school records of achievement and a desire to further their education. In addition to academics, a student's involvement and accomplishments in the community, youth organizations, and work experience will be considered. Applications are available from Mrs. Seifert and are due by April 26, 2024.
