Vance Charter School Medication Policy

Any medication to be given during school hours must be accompanied with an “Administration of Medication During School Hours” form.  The form, which is available in the office, must be signed by a parent and the doctor.  The medication must be in a prescription bottle with the name of the child’s doctor, the name of the medication to be given, the dosage, and name of the parents.  If your child’s medication changes in any way, a new form must be completed.

Parents are responsible for transporting medication to and from school.  Students are not allowed to have medication in their possession in school.  Over-the-counter medications must adhere to the same guidelines.

Unexpected illnesses, such as headaches, stomach aches, etc., that occur during the school day are handled by the office staff.  Parents are generally called to make the decision as to whether or not the child stays in school.  Some illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, etc. require the student to leave school.  The student should return to school only after the symptoms are absent for 24 hours.
