Biography-

Jo Smith Read, Director of Curriculum

I joined the staff of Vance Charter School during the summer of 2010 after working in education for 35 years. After graduation from Lamar University (Beaumont TX) in 1975, I taught in Texas until I moved to Virginia and began teaching there in 1978.  My career in Virginia included experience in the classroom, as a principal, administering programs at the state level, and teaching teachers.  Along the way, I earned my master’s and doctoral degrees at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. 

Outside my life long commitment to education, I have developed a deep love for cooking, which I refer to jokingly as my therapy.  The loves of my life are my family members - husband, Dave, son Chris, daughter-in-law Genia and mother Jodie.
