Vance Charter School Policy on Athletic Eligibility Effective 3-24-09
All middle school students are eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics, to include those who are have modified grading/assignments. To wit: if a student has an IEP, is in seventh grade and they are doing work at a fifth grade level as a result of a learning disability, the grade they receive for their academic performance at the level for their modified grading/assignments will be given the same validity for athletic eligibility as a student in seventh grade who is receives a grade for doing on-grade level work. The standard for athletic eligibility is a “C” average on each Progress Report or Report Card. Eligibility will be determined from one Progress Report or Report Card to the next (every 4 ½ weeks). Changes, either positive or negative, in academic achievement, between Progress Reports and/or Report Cards, will not be used as a determining factor for eligibility. A “C” average is required for students to remain eligible during any reporting period. If students do not achieve a “C” average on any Progress Report or Report Card, they will remain ineligible until they again achieve a “C” average on the next Progress Report or Report Card.
