Dear Parents:
Welcome to both our returning and new students and all parents and other family
members! I am very proud to announce that on North Carolina ABC testing for
mathematics our students oncve again earned the "HIGH GROWTH" rating by the
North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, which is quite a distinct
accomplishment since performance standards become tougher and tougher each
year. This result is a testament to both your children, our students, and our
wonderful, truly professional staff.
If you weren't aware, our first Open House for the 2008-9 school year is
scheduled for Monday evening, August 18th. K-2 students and their parents have
the 5-6 time slot set aside for them, 3-5 from 6-7 and middle school from 7-8.
We have a new Assistant Principal/Currriculum Director this year. Mrs. Ann
Hancock is coming to us from an Assistant Principal position in Granville
County. With twenty-five years of experience and lots of common sense, I
know she is going to be a great asset to VCS. Her biographical sketch should be
available for your review on the school's website no later than August 11th.
One of our goals this year is to provide information to parents via the school's
website in a much more timely manner and we all know good communciation serves
as the foundation for good parent-teacher-administrator relationships. Teacher
and administration-produced newsletters will be another valuable source of
information for parents.
We are all looking forward to another great year in 2008-9, in particular to
providing your children with a classroom learning environment in which they
feel both their individual and group educational needs are being met.
